Whether you call it a Family Dance, Hoedown, Harvest Festival, Barn Dance, Square Dance, Cake Walk or just a plain old dance, it’s a wonderful community building social event and my goal is create a fun and relaxed atmosphere in which everyone can feel successful. I start with the easiest of moves (walking to music) and gradually up the skill level so everyone is always comfortable. No dance experience of any kind is needed and the moves are clearly taught with lively tunes playing to make it all more fun. I have called events as challenging as an elementary school field day, where each group of 16 students got 9 minutes of time for both instruction AND dancing and as easy as a hall full of eager, experienced square dancers ready for a couple hours of fast moving fun.
I am happy to work with you to plan the music and dancing at your event to suit your needs. I can help determine the style of fiddle music most suited to the dancing you want to do (Irish, Applalachian, New England, French Canadian or other) and work within your budget to hire the right musicians and sound equipment for your event.
I am also available on a longer term basis to teach dance at your school as an artist in residence. This kind of instruction usual ends with a performance or dance event for students and their families.
